Well, perhaps they do.

A couple years ago I launched a website called The RandomBookMachine (www.randombookmachine.com. I think it’s a pretty cool site. It was fun to build, and I designed the rating algorithm myself – pretty proud of that.

But the site hasn’t ever really gotten any traction. I get people stopping by here and there to rate covers, and a new book gets signed up once in a while. But I’ve never really had the time to promote it as much as it would have needed. I kind of think of it as a victim of Too Many Ideas. I just can’t promote them all!

So anyway, fast-forward a couple years, and a new site launched recently: www.RateMyBookCover.com. Looking pretty similar to the RandomBookMachine, I think. Even the wording is similar.

I don’t think they ripped me off. I don’t think it’s really a great enough idea to rip off. It’s not even that original on my part (see www.HotOrNot.com. There are only so many ideas out there… things are bound to get duplicated here and there. Besides, there’s that thing they say about imitation and flattery.

To be honest, I kinda hope they are more successful that I have been, and I wish them well.

So anyway, check out mine, check out theirs. Rate books on both! What the heck, why not?

As long as you are enjoying indie books, the world is better for all of us!
