I am changing things up a bit for the next show. Instead of bringing in one guest and picking their brain about what makes them successful, I have invited a small panel of folks that have one thing in common: They all know how to hustle their books.

With so many self-marketing outlets available to the indie author these days – online social networks, websites, blogs, podcasts etc – it can sometimes feel like there are too many options. It can get overwhelming. That’s the downside. The upside of it all is that we now have so many outlets through which we can promote our work that our only real limitation is time and interest.

Each of our three guests this week have eagerly grabbed a peice of this new world and harnessed it. We are going to discuss with them what they are doing and how you can do it too.

Angelo Solera lives and breathes his book, “The Journey, el Camino.” To spend a moment talking with Angelo is to spend a moment talking about his book. He uses a very personal, passionate approach to handsell his book at every opportunity. He also leverages his background as a community activist and his access to multiple ethnic communities to generate interest in his work.

Though Devlon Wadell’s book, “Syrup Sandwich,” was only recently released he has quickly adopted online social media to spread the word well beyond his own social circles. Facebook and Twitter seem to be his tools of choice, and he has many ideas about book promotion that break the mold of conventional thought, e.g. he refuses to formulate an “elevator speach” to summarize his book.

Erika Robuck, author of the hostorical fiction “Receive Me Falling,” seems to have cracked the code that leaves many authors frustrated: booking live author events. From book stores to book clubs to boat shows, she has set up her bookboard and read, signed and smiled her way to book sales. I look forward to talking to her about how to find, set up and succeed at these types of author events.

I want to emphasize that none of these authors are marketing gurus. They are simply indie published authors that happen to be great at spreading the word. I chose them because they demonstrate that with a little savy, charisma and will each of us has what it takes to generate excitement about our books. They posses something I think we all have within us: The Hustle.
